Sith Trainee

Created for a custom contest over at, this was a fun, pretty quick custom. Nothing too fancy going on, other than the magnetized saber gauntlets, though they didn't go on as cleanly as I'd like and didn't feel necessary when I was done as the blade themselves are also removable.

Working with white plastic is almost as bad as trying to paint white, as the plastic likes to leech up paint as it's handled and painted.

She's a little skimpily clothed, but I was actually going off of women boxers as a rough visual basis...

Parts Recipe:
Padme Amidala (Ilum Outfit) - Base figure
Aurra Sing - Boots
Jes Gistang - Head
Clone Trooper Hevy - Gauntlets
Mercenary Wraith - Beam Emitters
Prince of Persia Armbands - Leg Wraps

Aurra Sing - Stolen Armor

Aurra Sing has been a favorite of mine since she first appeared for a half second in The Phantom Menace. I was very disappointed she got demoted to EU status instead of playing a larger part on the big screen, and hadn't really kept up with what it had established about her.

Her appearance in the Clone Wars animated series is one of the things I like best about the show, and I was impressed that her character design translated so well to the stylistic look of the CG-toon.

Even better, her toon-based figure wasn't so stylized that it couldn't fit in with the more "realistic" styled parts. I knew I wanted to tackle a new look for Aurra, but it wasn't until recently that I started to have a solid idea.

In The Clone Wars, she's shown as a sometimes mentor, sometimes accomplice to young Boba Fett, and I liked the idea of of using that partnership as an excuse to see Aurra suited up like a fellow Mandalorian...

Her antenna is actually removable, and her pony tail is magnetized so both can be worn outside her helmet, as if there were openings in the armor for them.

Parts Recipe:
Aurra Sing - Head, Arms, Hands, Thighs, Hair, and Guns
Rav Bralor - Torso, Gauntlets, Belt, Waist, Boots
Concept Boba Fett - Helmet
Boba Fett - Range Finder

Volussk - Gand Salvager

This is another figure inspired by Mass Effect, this time by the rotund Volus species. I immediately thought of them when I saw the base figure, and spent a while trying to figure out how to go about translating the idea into the Star Wars universe.

I turned to my friends over at the forums at and got some really good suggestions for what Star Wars aliens might match the look I was going for. But when forum member Tonphanan suggested the Gand, I knew he was on to something.

Since the original base figure lacked any real articulation other than the neck and arms, I used some magnets to make the head and hands interchangeable. This way, he gets a little more range of motion in the wrists and we get to sneak a peek at who's under that mask.

I imagine Volussk to be a Gand in his twilight years, spending his days alone in space doing salvage operations on derelict and abandon space craft.

Parts Recipe:
Planet 51 Chuck - Base Figure
Hulkbuster Iron Man - Helmet
Chap Mei Green Alien - Head
Captain Typho's Helmet - Helmet apparatus
Nrin Vakil - Alternate hands
Airtight - Backpack

Star Wars Self Portrait - "Dandalorian"

"Portrait Figures," customs based on friends and family as they might appear in tiny plastic form, are a favorite of mine. It's always fun to find a head sculpt that reminds you of someone you know, or even yourself. As soon as I saw this one I thought it'd be perfect for a Star Wars based self portrait!

I wasn't sure what my Star Wars persona should look like... a Jedi, or perhaps a smuggler? Having made a few Mandalorian figures lately, I decided to tack a crack at making a "Dandalorian."

Of course, that and my desert themed "Sandalorian" have me thinking about all sorts of horrible pun based Mandos... a foppish Dandylorian or Solo and Calrissian disguised as a Handalorian and Landolorian. Maybe I should just stop now and list the parts? Fair enough.

Parts Recipe:
Dengar - Base Figure
Jango Fett - Additional armor, feet, and jetpack
Pre Visla - Helmet
Grand Moff Trachta - Hands
Borsk Fey'Lya - Lower legs
Boba Fett - Neck wrap
Pirates of the Caribbean (OST) Gibbs - Head

Doctor Salarus - Nikto Surgeon

This is another Mass Effect inspired custom figure, based on the Salarian Mordin Solus from Mass Effect 2

I see him as a prominent surgeon and scientist conscripted by the Separatists during the Clone Wars to act as personal physician and medic for the non-droid contingent of their military.

The Cloud Car Pilot base has a fun, classic sci-fi feel to it. With the red shoulder area and black lining, his uniform looks like it almost belongs in Star Trek or Voltron, but still ties in some of the visual elements from the character design he's based on.

Parts Recipe:
(Twin Pod) Cloud Car Pilot: Base Figure
Wooof - Head and Hands
Star Trek TNG Data's Phaser - Medical Device

Mr. Glass - Villain from "Unbreakable"

Can't believe I missed uploading this, it's one of my favorite customs!

Mr. Glass from Unbreakable, which is probably still my favorite super-hero movie. Rumors were that it was the start of a trilogy when it came out, and as much as I love the characters I think it's probably for the best we never got those sequels. I just can't see them living up to the power of the original.

Parts Recipe:
Mace Windu - Head with sculpted hair
ROC Destro - Arms
ROC The Doctor - Coat
ROC Cobra Commander - Legs
ROC MARs Trooper - Torso
Star Wars Lightsaber - Glass cane
